Editorial on the African Diaspora

We have the ideas, the human resources and the natural resources. With unity, determination and willingness we can set Africa on the best road for a great future.

It is the 21st Century and we, people of African descents are still struggling on many fronts. The togetherness is still lacking, which has broken the trust to bring ideas together. Water those ideas with many hands and make them grow into something that can serve us all and make our continent move forward to depend on itself. It is also a pathway to contribute to the global society. It is time to turn “the what I can take from my country or my continent, into what I can give my country or continent".

The “what I can take for myself” idea rather than the idea to contribute to a society as a whole in Africa is a mentality that for decades has mercilessly plagued nations across Africa, leaving behind millions of victims. Today’s generation are bearing most of the pain. We carry scars that we’ve been identified with but don’t belong to us. We’ve missed the first hours of the nations buildings. But we have not missed the climax. There is still hope. But we have to work hard to clean up and heal the bruises, and the scars left on our heritage to have a clean and respectable face out there.

The time has come to lighten consciousness among Africans in our communities abroad to join efforts to lift up our continent and its people. At the same time by our voice send throughout the world healing waves to shower minds that for so long have turned the bright light of the Africa continent to its dimmest point. Our journey to the far west of mother Africa did not happen by accident. It is a mission that is not just ours but for the generations to come. Let’s come together and take a little step beyond our little selfish life and take something valuable from whatever we have to contribute to the well-being of our continent. It is our duty. Today, we may live in palaces with gleaming windows far away from Africa but those gleaming windows will always reflect the images of all the pain and suffering of the continent. And inside, your dreams will always tell you something is missing. Get up and respond to the urgent call of Mama Africa.

In our effort to bring that change that will relabel Africa to re-establish the respect, the dignity and the honor it has lost. We have to keep the youth in America and Africa in mind. Can we really see a future when we don’t see the young people? We have to find ways and means to get them out of the battlefields, feed them, clothe them, and most important — educate them. The knowledge we can help them acquire will be the rock their lives will rest on, something that they will use to transform this world for generations.

Just like our big brother President Obama says, “Yes, we can”.
